Cornerstone Day Treatment Program
Program Overview:
Cornerstone Day Treatment is a skills-based treatment program for Adults with acute, serious or severe and persistent mental illness. Evidenced based treatment protocols such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Role Recovery (BU model) and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy are employed within a therapeutic milieu. Through participation in an intensive, behavioral-change-oriented program clients learn to decrease the degree to which symptoms interfere with daily functioning and life satisfaction. Members of the Cornerstone treatment community learn to master their symptoms through participation in the therapeutic milieu, and through attending specifically designed curricula in one or more of the following areas:
Through direct involvement in an individually tailored treatment plan, and a carefully developed, active-learning program, members of the Cornerstone treatment community also experience role-recovery in a variety of areas including:

Treatment Expectations:
Treatment at Cornerstone usually involves 6 hours per day, 5 days per week for a period of 4 to 12 months. Clients may be involved in other activities that interfere with attendance on certain days, and to the extent that these activities support the client's treatment goals, they may be accomodated. Clients need to have some degree of motivation to make behavioral changes and need to allow the multidisciplinary treatment team to coordinate treatment with other providers and significant persons in their lives. Clients are often referred from inpatient facilities. In such cases, it is presumed that once the client has stabilized, he/she will continue at Cornerstone to work on improving functional effectiveness and preventing relapse. Clients who are primarily substance dependent, have strong antisocial tendencies, are unable to control violent impulses or are not motivated to change are not appropriate for this treatment milieu.
Referral Process:
Referrals can be made by calling (978) 373-9158. There is a 1 page referral form which can be faxed to the referring provider and returned at fax # (978) 521-7768. Please attach any clinical information that will assist us in understanding why the referral is being made, what the referent's treatment needs are, what treatment has previously been effective or not, what complications are present and what the risk factors are. All referrals are responded to within 24 hours and intake evaluations are scheduled as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours of referral. The intake evaluation consists of the client spending a full day at the program evaluating us, as we evaluate them.
