VOCAL (Victims of Crime and Loss)
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do." Eleanor Roosevelt
At the VOCAL program, a safe place has been created to help those who have suffered violence and loss in their lives. Individuals walk in as victims, but they are given a chance to heal. They are encouraged to discover how they are survivors- strong and capable even in their darkest times.
At the VOCAL program, services are confidential and offered FREE of charge. Clients only need to focus on healing and not on forms or payment. Support is provided twenty-four hours a day and comes in the form of:
§ Individual counseling § Family counseling § Advocacy
Sessions are held at offices in Beverly, Salem and Gloucester. Home visits or meetings in the community are possible- clients can be seen where they feel most comfortable (within the area of Essex County).
Women who have been exposed to violence are invited to join a weekly yoga group. This unique support group has been designed to help women deal with stress and develop essential relaxation techniques to foster healing. To schedule an intake for this gentle yoga class, contact Karen Tompkins, LICSW at 978-927-4506 x202.
In addition to counseling services, clients can access psychiatric care and medication through the psychopharmacology division of HES. These appointments can be billed through most insurances.
