NORTH SHORE RAPE CRISIS CENTER
THE 24 HOUR HOTLINE: 1-800-922-8772
Project BAR
Project BAR is a new initiative linking local bars with the North Shore Rape Crisis Center (NSRCC) in an effort to prevent the use of date rape drugs and to inform the public about their dangers. NSRCC was inspired to begin the project by a similar initiative linking bars and the local Rape Crisis Center in College Town, Pennsylvania. There are currently four local bars who are participating in this project and are committed to using the NSRCC cocktail napkins on Thursday nights at their establishment.
These napkins provide information on common date rape drugs as well as contact information for the Center. In addition, the napkins also act as a conversation piece to the patrons of the bars. Sexual Violence is a topic that is rarely talked about and still thought of as a taboo topic. However, with the use of these napkins, people are talking beginning to talk about it and break the silence and stereotypes around it.
NSRCC provide these napkins free of charge, though there is always the hope that as support for this project builds, local bars will pick up the funding.
Six bars currently participate in Project BAR
If you are at any of these bars, please acknowledge the napkins and break the silence around sexual violence and rape.
